E125 on current Baxi combis is a primary circulation fault. The boiler measured its own temperature climbing too quickly and concluded the water was not moving through it. So it shut down.

The causes run from easy to awkward. Low pressure or a closed valve after other work is easy. A sticking pump is harder. A heat exchanger partly blocked with sludge is harder again.

Sludge is common in older Brownhills systems that have never been flushed. Check the manual for your model.

What's involved

Baxi E125 Fault Code in Brownhills: what's involved

Look at the pressure

Low pressure can cause poor circulation. If the gauge is well under one bar cold, top up via the filling loop as the manual shows, then reset once.

Valves under the boiler

If anyone has worked on the heating recently, check the isolating valves under the boiler are open. A closed flow valve gives this code.

Signs of sludge

Radiators cold at the bottom, black water when you bleed them, or a boiler that sounds like a kettle all point at sludge in the system.

The engineer's side

Pump operation, the pressure sensor, and flow through the heat exchanger. A clean-out and a filter often solve it for good.

How long it'll take

A pump or sensor swap is usually one visit. A system clean-out takes most of a day because the radiators are flushed one at a time. The engineer tells you which at the end of the diagnosis.

Photos that help

Questions about Baxi E125 Fault Code

Is E125 dangerous?

The boiler has shut down before overheating, so it is protecting itself. If you smell gas, that is different. Go outside, touch no switches, and call 0800 111 999.

It comes on after a few minutes of heating. Why?

That timing fits water not flowing fast enough, often a tired pump or a partly blocked heat exchanger.

Would a system flush help?

If sludge is the cause, yes. The engineer can tell from the water and the radiators whether a flush is worth it.

What decides the cost of an E125 repair?

The cause. A valve left shut costs nothing to put right. A pump is a larger job. A flush takes the most time. You are told which it is before work begins.
